Paris, 24th of September 2014.
Sensing Labs, the Internet of Things low-power sensor expert has announced the release of
their new LoRa enabled sensors for the Smart Metering, Intelligent Building and Smart City
market. This new solution will allow building managers to achieve greater energy efficiency in
monitoring energy and water consumption. The new range of products from Sensing Labs is
fully integrated with the ThingPark Wireless network of base stations. Once rolled out on a
building roof-top, a ThingPark Wireless antenna can collect energy efficiency data from Sensing
Labs sensors over a distance of 2km for dense cities and up to 15 km in less dense regions.
“The end-to- end solution will help the smart building and smart metering eco-system with a
more cost-effective solution that provides higher indoor penetration and longer range compared
to existing solutions,” said Yann Guiomar, CEO of Sensing Labs
An end-to- end solution based on the ThingPark Wireless long range network
The new unique solution announced by Sensing Labs and Actility uses the license free
Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM)-band spectrum, allowing low cost and fast roll-out of
M2M networks to accommodate industrial sensors for a wide range of IoT applications. The
solution incorporates the LoRa spread-spectrum technology transceivers making it possible to
reliably transmit low data rate signals up to 15 km without issues related to crystal accuracy
found in traditional systems for smart metering and industrial applications based on frequency
shift keying (FSK) modulation. Data captured from Sensing Labs sensors are sent through the
ThingPark Wireless to third-party smart energy management solutions or can be stored in
Actility’s ThingPark Cloud infrastructure to be used for post analysis in energy savings
programs. “We are happy to welcome Sensing Labs into the growing base of sensor partners
integrated with ThingPark Wireless. Sensing Labs’s team brings a unique experience in the field
of Smart Building and Smart metering applications and our end-to- end solution,” said Olivier
Hersent, CEO of Actility.
Bringing Sensing Labs smart metering experience to the Internet of Things market
Retrieving energy consumption profiles is becoming a major challenge with buildings now
consuming approximately 40% of the world’s energy. Because all building structures differ
depending on location and age, getting accurate readings on all energy consumptions is key. To
build energy saving and optimization programs, companies need solutions that are easy to roll
out and take into account seasons and occupancy levels. Sensing Labs products and
engineering team bring a unique experience in designing smart utility metering products with
low-power capability. They combine high reliability, cutting-edge customer-oriented firmware as
well as a plug and play installation philosophy.
